Zonal statistics on thermal remote sensing image for the City of Toronto demonstrate a significant differences between the average temperature for commercial and residential land use (29.1°C) and resource land use (25.1°C). The impact of extreme heat on human health are quite severe. They include but are not limited to: heat rash, sunburn, fainting and heat exhaustion(8). In Toronto, it is expected that at this current rate of temperature rise, the number of days above 30°C is set to be more than triple sometime between the years 2040 and 2049. This will result in the city's annual heat-related deaths to more than double by the 2050s(14).
